WarHawks Streak Ends vs Granite City

Nov 23, 2020

The Willmar Warhawks came into Friday night against Granite City riding a three-game winning streak, but couldn’t keep it going suffering a 4-2 loss. The 1st period went scoreless but it wasn’t from a lack of shots. Cooper Olson made 21 saves for the Warhawks in that opening period, while his counterpart Bailey Huber stopped 17. The game opened up in the 2nd period, in total contrast from the first period, seeing Granite City score 3 goals on 4 shots and Willmar scoring twice on 3 shots. Ethan Light opened up the scoring with his 3rd of the year about three minutes in with Dylan Gajewski and Tanner Hallet picking up the assists. The Lumberjacks came back with the next three goals before Michael Sweetland came through with a late power-play goal to pull Willmar within one at 3-2 entering the 3rd. It was Sweetland’s 6th of the year with Owen Thomas and Jack Willis getting the assists. Granite City scored the lone goal in the 3rd to seal the 4-2 victory.

Willmar (5-9-0-0 – 10 pts) is in 4th place in the West one point behind Alexandria. Willmar will wait to see when they play next due to the State of Minnesota’s temporary shutdown of sports. Stay updated on the WarHawks social media platforms and at willmarwarhawks.com
