Warhawks wiped out by Blizzard
WILLMAR — One night after emerging with a 4-3 victory on the road against the same opponent, Willmar was no contest for Alexandria, as the Blizzard crushed the home WarHawks 10-0 Saturday from the Willmar Civic Center.
Scoring three goals in the first period, four in the second and three more in the third, Alexandria had eight players reach the back of the net, led by forwards Brandon Connett and Carter Rieland, who each knocked in two goals. Connett also dished out out a helper, as he was one of four players that produced three points, joining defensiveman Val Popowski (three assists), forward Caleb Strong (one goal, two assists), and forward Michal Trejbal (one goal, two assists).
Blizzard goaltender Ville Hyttinen stopped 37 saves to earn the shutout. Two goalies saw action in net for the WarHawks.
Luc Haggitt was pulled late in the second period after stopping 25 of 31 shots on goal. Jake Sumner was on the ice for the final 23 minutes, 55 seconds. He collected eight saves on 12 shots on net.
