WarHawks had our 2nd home game and fans were in for an entertaining night! Not only did multiple fans win prizes, they got to see 3 good guy goals in the 3rd for a thrilling end of the night.
Boys took on the Minnesota Moose who they saw for our season opener. 1st period went on for 15 minutes before we saw a goal. Unfortunately, it was the Moose that struck first. And as fate would have it, they scored again with 2:44 left in the period. You could feel the mood shift and uneasiness in the arena after the second goal. Apparently, the boys didn’t feel it because with only 1:15 left, the Hawks scored! The Moose tried to break the puck out on the far side wall but K. Jackson kept it in. M. Jackson made a beautiful behind the back, back hand pass to Walker McGillis who beat the Moose tendy high blocker to get the boys within one before the period ended.
2nd period had multiple chances and the WarHawks out shot the Moose 12 to 6. Surprisingly, no penalties were called on either team. Period ended with the same score as the 1st, 1-2.
3rd period was a whirlwind. Less than 5 minutes into the period the Moose were able to score and the boys went down by two now. But a few seconds later, the Moose took a roughing penalty. Time to get back into this one. Callaghan makes a zone entry by the near side boards and skates it behind the net. He went up the half wall and dropped a pass to K Jackson. Jackson sent the puck through the slot over to Maddux Domagala who one timed it and scored. Back within one. A little over ten minutes into the 3rd, E. Domagala caught a break out pass on the blue line and took, what looked like, a knee to knee hit but there was no call. The Moose took advantage of it and had a two on one, scoring just a few seconds later. When the WarHawks did get a call their way, they took full advantage. Down two, on the power play, there was a scrum behind the net. Aidan Callaghan took the puck out up to the top of the far circle. Started skating it towards the slot and shot. Somehow the puck snuck behind the Moose tendy getting the boys back, once again, within one. Three minutes later the Hawks go back on the power play and yes, you guessed it. GOAL! M. Domagal was fighting for the puck in the near corner when Callaghan grabs the it and skates up by the half wall. Callaghan sees Kaiden Jackson slowly coming from the blue line to the top of the circle and send it his way. KJ shoots and ties it up with 2:58 left in the game. Everyone in the arena was expecting bonus hockey and that we’d be going into overtime. To the dismay of the home crowd, the Moose were able to capitalize on a turnover in the neutral zone and score with just 1:15 left in the 3rd. Absolutely heartbreaking after that incredible come from behind 3rd period.
Boys are back on home ice this Friday and Saturday to take on the Moose and the Blizzard again. They have some unfinished business with both teams and are looking to get even. Come on out to the Civic Center this weekend to support the boys!
