WARHAWKS MAKE LATE PUSH BUT COME UP SHORT

Feb 24, 2025

Friday night the boys hit the road to Alexandria to take on the Blizzard. First period felt like the puck luck was not on the Hawks side. Which wasn’t from a lack of effort, the boys out shot the Blizzard and were on twice as many power plays. It felt like something or someone needed to be the spark that lit the proverbial fire. The period ended and the boys had a 2 goal deficit to dig out of.

Second period started and the Hawks were playing a lot of offense. You could feel something was about to happen. Around 4 minutes into the second, Schultz kept the puck in the zone on the near wall blue line. Sending the puck all the way to the opposite side of the ice. Holtz pinched by the half wall and the puck popped out to the slot. Henry Schultz (2)(Holtz 7) threw the puck at the net from the blue line, besting the Blizzard tendy. 2-1, was that the spark that was needed? Unfortunately, the Blizzard scored two more times and it felt like the game was slipping away. Hawks went on a 5 minute power play and everyone in the arena knew the WarHawks had to capitalize. A little over a minute into the power play Keegan got a backhand pass from Wendorff for a zone entry. Aidan Callaghan (21)(Montgomery 10, Wendorff 16) was crashing the near side net, received a pass from Keegan and beat the Blizzard netminder glove side. The Blizzard scored their final goal late in the second to finish up the period.

Third period is what makes going to a hockey game worth it. Scott Woltman (10)(Hinze 28, Callaghan 19) got a pass, high in the slot, and shot it bar down just twelve seconds into the period. There was even a fight mixed into the hockey being played. Nine minutes in, Holtz shot the puck from the blue line and Kaiden Jackson (2)(Holtz 8, Montgomery 11) had a beautiful tip by the hash marks to beat the Blizzard tendy. The Hawks pulled their goalie with 1 minute left but just couldn’t sneak one more past the goal line.

Saturday, the boys headed to Blaine to play the Moose. The Moose have been on a tear since about a month or so ago, beating most teams they’ve played. First period was incredibly good hockey from both teams. In fact, no one scored until eight minutes into the 2nd period. The Moose had 4 unanswered goals until a little over 12 minutes into the third, when Henry Schultz (3)(Hinze 29, Woltman 13) grabbed a rebound, short side and buried one to get the boys on the board. The WarHawks played a very disciplined game only getting 3 penalties and out shot the Moose. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get the win.

Boys are on home ice against the Wilderness this Friday, Feb 28th for Billet Appreciation Night and Sunday March 2nd for Fan Appreciation Night!
