WarHawks Finish Regular Season with Weekend Sweep

The Willmar WarHawks finished their regular season with a weekend sweep and clinched the final playoff spot in the West Division playoffs.  The WarHawks beat the Minnesota Loons Friday night 7-3 to clinch the playoff spot, then beat the New Ulm Steel Saturday night 4-2 and wrapped up the weekend with another win over the Minnesota Loons 8-3 on Sunday night.  On Friday night, Tyler Misialek and Nik Johnson netted 2 goals each as nearly every player earned a point in the game.

Goaltender Zach Ortolano made 23 saves for his 9th win of the season.  On Saturday night, the WarHawks beat New Ulm 4-2 behind a great effort in net from Mike D’Orazio.  D’Orazio made 27 saves and had to make some pretty good saves at times.  Defenseman Jake Hosszu had a pair of assists in the game as 4 different players scored goals.  Sunday night an 8-3 win over the Minnesota Loons.  WarHawks Head Coach Connor White was happy getting 3 wins and clinching the playoffs.  He said that he spoke to his team about the goals for the weekend and they went out and did their job.  The WarHawks finish the regular season 20-25-2-0.

Next up for the WarHawks is the West Division semis against the top seed in the playoffs the Granite City Lumberjacks.  The schedule for the playoffs isn’t official from the NA3HL.  Game 1 of the best of 3 series will be Friday night in Sauk Rapids at 7:30pm.  Game 2 will be at the Willmar Civic Center Arena with the game starting at 7:10.  Tickets will be available at willmarwarhawks.com when the NA3HL makes the playoff schedule official.
