Willmar WarHawks fall to Blizzard, 3-1
ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria slipped past Willmar in a hard-fought NA3HL game Saturday night, beating the WarHawks 3-1.
A crowd of 816 at the Runestone Community Center saw the Blizzard take a 2-0 lead early in the third period.
Willmar’s Jake Santarelli cut the deficit to 2-1. The forward from Orchard Park, N.Y., scored his fifth goal of the season at 9:33 of the third.
Alexandria, however, got an insurance goal from Dylan Carlson at 18:43.
Lukas Haugen stopped 35 of 38 shots for Willmar.
The teams are now 2-2 in their meetings this season.
Willmar (8-8-1-1) is in fifth in the West Division. Alexandria (10-5-2-1) is in third place. North Iowa (17-3-1-0, 35 points) is in first place, followed by Granite “City (14-4-0-0, 28), Alex (23), New Ulm (19), Willmar (18) and Breezy Point (4-16-1-0, 9).
The WarHawks have a meet-and-greet set for 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Willmar VFW. The team is host to a military appreciation night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, against the Granite City Lumberjacks.
Before that, Willmar plays the North Iowa Bulls at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Willmar Civic Center.
