WARHAWKS FAIL TO GAIN 2 POINTS LAST WEEK

Nov 25, 2024

WarHawks started the 2 game week with a Wednesday home game against the Granite City Lumberjacks. The first period was filled with excitement and a lot of back and forth play. Early in the first, the WarHawks thought they had scored a goal but it was called off. Heartbreaking, of course, but the game went on. Jett Wheeler (2)(Irion 5) scored his second goal of the season late in the first to give the boys and the crowd hope. Unfortunately, the WarHawks couldn’t find the same magic they had on Oct 26th when they beat the Lumberjacks for the first time in over a year.

Saturday, the boys made the trek up to Eveleth to take on the Wilderness for the fourth time this season. Ben Branco (1)(Hinze 14) got the boys on the board with his first goal of the season. The 2nd period was scoreless but saw a lot of great hockey. It seemed the ice was tilted in the WarHawks favor. The Wilderness were able to score twice within three minutes halfway through the third to take the lead. Then, Hayden Strensrud (2) scored to tie it up. Defense was definitely leading the way with both goals so far. With just a minute and 40 seconds left in the game, the Wilderness scored. Even though the boys lost, Coach Payton said “We played a great game of hockey. We didn’t get the bounces, they did.”

Next up, on the road Wednesday to take on the Blizzard and then back to back home games Friday and Saturday night. Pack the barn WarHawks Nation!
