WarHawks drop 2 games to Alexandria
Friday was a night filled with excitement. 800 people in attendance for the WarHawks home opener at the Willmar Civic Center started with a jump as Scott Woltman(2) tallied first to put Willmar up 1-0 after the first period. The game shifted quickly as Alexandria would score three goals to open the 2nd period. A mid-period response from Callaghan (1) brought new life into the WarHawks, but Alexandria proved to be too much and added two more of their own. The 3rd period brought a single marker for the WarHawks, Hayden Stensrud buried his first of the season. Josh Mack played in net for the WarHawks, saving 23/31. The evening would close for an 8-3 loss for Willmar.
Saturday was a new day, and the opportunity for the WarHawks to return the favor and play spoiler as they traveled north to Alexandria for the Blizzard’s first home game of the season. Starting hot once again, the WarHawks Zane Irion(1) scored his first of the year to silence the crowd. This would turn out to be the lone tally for the WarHawks Saturday night. Special teams struggled as the Powerplay would go 0/7. Kai Girard stopped 37/42 for the WarHawks. Scoring chance after scoring chance simply would not fall for Willmar and ultimately the Warhawks fell to Alexandria 5-1 Final.
The WarHawks are back in action at home this weekend. A 7:10p puck drop on Friday, October 11th will see the WarHawks look to get the ship righted, and back in the win column.
