WARHAWKS COME OUT OF THE WEEKEND WITH A POINT

Dec 6, 2023

2 Games showed up on the schedule this weekend for the Willmar WarHawks starting the weekend off hosting the Mason City Toros yet again. After defeating Mason City 4-1 last Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center, The WarHawks continued their success early on by scoring not 1 but 2 goals both early in each of the 1st and 2nd period. Goals coming from Zane Irion and Tyler Misialek. With the 2-0 lead, Mason City battled back with their 1st goal of the night 9:16 into the 2nd period before they scored again on the Powerplay just minutes later. With the game at a tie going into the 3rd period. Both teams battled hard with Willmar out shooting Mason City 17-14 in the period. But no goals were exchanged leading to Overtime. After a untimely penalty call on Willmar, allowing for the 4 on 3 Toros PowerPlay. They capitalized again to finish the game 3-2 with the WarHawks earning the lone point. A new WarHawks record was recorded that night by 3rd year WarHawk Tyler Misialek becoming the new franchise leading goal scorer.

Next was the Granite City LumberJacks coming in as the visitor of a WarHawks “Community night” game where the WarHawks wore again their alternate community jerseys. Those jerseys are available for auction!  It was not a great start after Granite scored 2 goals in the 1st period leaving Willmar at a 2 goal deficit. Early in the 2nd period the WarHawks recorded a PowerPlay goal by Tyler Misialek. After a puck batted out of air over the head and by a Lumberjack player, play continued on which lead to a Lumberjack goal immediately after giving the Lumberjacks a 3-1 lead. More goals were exchanged Scott Woltman scoring Willmar’s 2nd goal. The period ended in a 4-2 score. The 3rd period was all Granite City after a early goal creating a 3 goal gap. Granite went on to score 7 in the 7-2 final.

The WarHawks are back on the road for a Friday night 12/8 game up in Breezy Point facing the Loons. They will have Saturday off before heading to Mason City for a matinee game Sunday afternoon.
