Willmar WarHawks were back home at the Willmar Civic Center on Saturday night playing in front of its fans for the first time since April 2. After opening the regular season with three road games the WarHawks did not disappoint in their homecoming easily defeating the Alexandria Blizzard 10-2.

Jeremiah Konkel had the crowd energized early scoring just :50 after puck drop. Less than a minute later it was Luke Johnson hitting the back of the net for a 2-0 lead which they took to the locker room at intermission.

Alexandria would score off the opening draw, but a trio of goals in the second had Willmar in control 5-1 after 40 minutes of play. Ben Luedtke scored twice in the frame while Collin Kerchoff netted his first of two tallies on the night.

Willmar would blow the game wide open in the final period with goals from Max Cohen, Elbridge Dekraai, Brady O’Brien, Konkel and Kerchoff.

Will Kunka won his debut between the pipes, stopping 24 of 26 shots. Willmar finished the game with 47 shots on net.

The WarHawks (3-1-0-0) return to the Civic Center next Friday when they play host to the New Ulm Steel (2-2-0-0).
