WarHawk Weekend Recap | Community Night

Nov 28, 2022

The Willmar WarHawks went 1-2 last week.  The WarHawks lost a road game to Alexandria 9 to 2.  The WarHawks couldn’t match the energy and gave up 7 unanswered goals before breaking through with 4 and a half to play in the 2nd period.  Connor Garcia scored on the power play to get on the board.  Braydon Buckingham added a power play goal a little over midway through the 3rd period for the scoring for the WarHawks.

The WarHawks then hosted the Mason City Toros after Thanksgiving.  The WarHawks split a very fun and entertaining series winning Friday 4-3.  The game was close the whole way.  The Toros scored the only goal of the 1st period.  The WarHawks then scored the only goal of the 2nd as Nik Johnson got his 2nd of the year with a power play goal.  Then, in the 3rd, Chandler Dennis gave the WarHawks a 2-1 lead.  It did not last long as Mason City answered back 71 seconds later to tie the game.  Then Braydon Buckingham did his thing.  Buckingham scored at the 710 mark of the 3rd with a 2 man advantage and then 30 seconds later scored another power play goal, his team leading 7th and 8th goals of the season.  The Toros got one back midway through the 3rd, but the WarHawks held on to the lead for the win.  The WarHawks lost on Saturday night 5-4.  The WarHawks got on the board early after Gunnar Sibley won a faceoff and Sam Holm got a good bounce and scored 14 seconds into the game.  Then Gunnar Sibley scored at the 6 minute mark and it was 2 to nothing lead for the WarHawks.  You can’t count out the Toros as they answered back later in the first and it was 2-1 after 1.  Mason City tied the game 5 minutes into the 2nd but then the WarHawks got back to back goals.  Connor Garcia intercepted a pass and pretty goal for the lead, then Luke McCarthy got his 4th of the season and it was 3-2 WarHawks after 2.  The WarHawks then lost a bit in the 3rd as they gave up 3 unanswered goals and came away with the win.

The WarHawks have a home and home series with the New Ulm Steel this coming weekend.  Friday night in New Ulm.  Saturday night will be a Subway Community Night and Teddy Bear Toss night sponsored by Christianson CPA’s and Consultants.  Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game.  When the WarHawks score their first goal, the teddy bears will be thrown onto the ice and then donated to the Salvation Army.  Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at willmarwarhawks.com.
