Oelkers Commits to Concordia

Jun 14, 2018

The Willmar Warhawks, proud members of the NA3HL, are please to announce that forward Max Oelkers (’97, Warroad, MN) has committed to Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) beginning Fall of 2018.

Oelkers, who completed just finished junior hockey by playing two seasons in Willmar, scored 26 goals and assisted on 37 others in 95 career games as a power forward with the Warhawks.

“I’m really excited to go to Concordia and play hockey because it’s close to home,” Oelkers said. “Playing Division 3 hockey in the MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will be a great experience.”

Oelkers was an alternate captain with the Warhawks in 2017-18. “Max was a presence on and off the ice here in Willmar,” Coach Bowman remarked. “When Max decided he was going to play his game and go 100% on the ice, he was a very tough player to play against.  He has great potential and we’re happy he’s pursuing these opportunities to continue his career.”

Max is the 2nd of the ’97s for the Warhawks to commit to NCAA-3 Hockey schools this offseason.  In May, goaltender Luke Fry committed to Trine University (Indiana) beginning in the Fall of 2018.
