The WarHawks didn’t need to leave town this past weekend as they hosted the Alexandria Blizzard Friday night, as we honored our Military-on-Military Night and Mason City Toros Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center.

WarHawks where getting their chances as they favored in possession and in the shots department. But it was Alexandria entering the visiting locker room after the 1st period with a 2-0 lead. Willmar continued the pressure finally scoring 3 goals in a 1 minute and 48 second stretch. Getting goals from Shane Dean and 2 from Gus Cantwell, Gaining the lead 4:48 into the 2nd period. Each team scored once more in the 2nd period. WarHawks leading 4-3 heading into the 3rd period. Alexandria tied the game up 10:57 into the 3rd period. WarHawks hit 2 posts before Alexandria was rewarded a PowerPlay where they would score the eventual game winning goal, handing the WarHawks their first loss in 8 games.

Saturday night with the visiting Toros became a scoring frenzy, Willmar’s Hudson Zinda started the scoring, finding the back of the net just 20 seconds into the game. Toros would take the lead 3-1 before Gus Cantwell and Nathan Hinze would get a tally each to tie the game at 3. Hudson Zinda would be first to score in the 2nd period and then again to complete the hat trick 15:08 into the 2nd period Giving the WarHawks a 5-4 lead. But wait there was more! another goal each was traded finishing the 2nd period 6-5 in Willmar’s favor. Toros would outscore the WarHawks 3-2 in the 3rd period sending the game to Overtime. Where the Toros would take advantage of a costly turnover scoring their 9th goal to end the game.
