The Willmar WarHawks swept their weekend home and home series against the New Ulm Steel with a shutout win Friday night 3-0 and overtime win Saturday night 4-3. Braydon Buckingham had the game winning goals in both games. Buckingham scored the first goal on Friday night just 53 seconds into the game. Buckingham also score the overtime goal 2:09 into the overtime on Saturday night. Buckingham now has goals in 4 of his last 5 games. Goaltender Mike D’Orazio made his first starts in net as a WarHawk and earned the shutout win making 38 saves Friday and then 31 saves in the overtime win on Saturday.
The Warhawks had a couple of players with 3 point weekends. Buckingham had the two game winning goal plus an assist and Connor Garcia had 3 assists. That extends Garcia’s point streak to 5 games and he’s had points in 9 of his last 10 games 4G 8A. The WarHawks continue a busy streatch of games in December. The WarHawks host Mason City on Wednesday night and then on the road for a weekend series against Central Division a very tough Oregon Tradesmen team in Oregon Wisconsin.
