Friday night the boys headed to Granite City to take on the Lumberjacks for their first of two games against the hockey club last weekend.
The home crowd went silent just 2:13 into the first period as Kyler Flanders (3)(Hendrickson 3) scored the games first goal from the blues line. Just a few minutes later the WarHawks took a penalty and the Jacks were able to capitalize on the man advantage. Which is saying something as the WarHawks are one of the best penalty killers in the league right now.
In the very end of the first period, the Jacks took a penalty that folded over to the second period. E. Domagala (3) got the boys 2nd lead of the night with a power play goal. The Jacks were able to tie the game back up around the 8 minute mark and the score stayed that way going into the third period.
The Jacks were able to get their 2nd power play goal of the evening in the beginning minutes of the 3rd and then scored again less than a minute later. The WarHawks pulled their goalie with only a little over a minute left but to no avail.
Tate Metcalf saw 55 shots, saving 51 with a 93% save percentage.
Saturday the boys were back on home ice for the orginizations favorite night, WIG’s Youth Hockey Night. “We want to be a group of role models.” Head Coach Joey Fodstad said when asked what it means to the hockey club having all these kids here that look up to junior hockey players. Over 650 people were in attendance and almost half were youth players. All three local associations were represented for a great evening celebrating youth hockey players.
The WarHawks are back on home ice Friday October 30th for our first Community Night and Halloween costume contest! All kids wearing a costume get in free with a paid adult.
