WARHAWKS HIRE TATE COTHERN AS NEW ASSISTANT COACH

May 1, 2026

The Willmar WarHawks are excited to announce the addition of Tate Cothern to the coaching staff as the team’s new Assistant Coach.

“Tate brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and a strong background in player development to the organization.” Director of Operations, Nate Schueller said. “His arrival marks an important step as the WarHawks continue to build a competitive culture and support the growth of their athletes both on and off the ice.”

“Tate is a young, hungry coach who really believes in the vision we’re building here in Willmar. He has a strong understanding of the game and has already shown himself to be a very good evaluator of talent. Having played three years at this level, he knows the league and its dynamics, which will be a big asset for our program.” Head Coach Joey Fodstad said about hiring Cothern.

“I’m so honored to join the Warhawk culture and willmar community. I can’t thank the front office and Joey enough. I’m excited to get going and help our players grow on and off the ice. Huge shoutout to my family for being supportive during this hiring process and can’t wait to get going. Go Warhawks!” Assistant Coach Tate Cothern said.

The entire WarHawks family—including the front office, players, and the Willmar community—extends a warm welcome to Coach Cothern. We look forward to the energy and expertise he will bring to the bench this season. Go WarHawks!
