Braden Shea had a big night with 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) as the Willmar WarHawks crushed the Rochester Ice Hawks 7-0 in a home game at Rochester Recreation Center in Willmar. Besides, the Willmar WarHawks' offense had a big night, peppering Rochester with 49 shots throughout the game, to go along with Luke Fry's shutout. The Willmar WarHawks took the lead before the halfway point in the first on a goal from Max Oelkers and never looked back.
Wyatt Toll did his part, adding 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Max Oelkers chipped in with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist).
During the first, Oelkers opened the scoring for the WarHawks with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 8:28 with helpers from his linemates, Cooper and Shea.
In the second, Toll netted a goal at 10:32 with helpers from Shea and Holt. Oelkers put in a goal at 13:37 with assists from his teammates Cooper and Toll.
In the third period, Toll scored a goal at 0:43 with assists from Shea and Cooper. Shea quickly followed with a goal at 2:38 with helpers from Oelkers and Swope. Shea deposited a goal at 12:09 with assists from his linemates, Holt and Bauman. Bolstad netted a goal at 16:18 with helpers from his linemates, Dixon and Berkowitz.
Willmar’s victory was in no doubt helped out by Fry’s shutout, as he stopped all 21 of the shots he faced. Fry’s counterpart, Murphy, also had a big night, managing to stop 42 of 49, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Willmar WarHawks’ record to (19-16-4-0).
