The Willmar WarHawks' offense had a big night, peppering the Granite City Lumberjacks with 28 shots throughout the game. The Willmar WarHawks took the lead before the halfway point in the third on a goal from Nathan Ackerman.
During the second period, Buhl opened the scoring for Granite City with a goal at 12:07 with helpers from his teammates Lund and Dahl.
In the third, Oelkers finally put Willmar on the board with a goal at 12:48 with assists from his linemates, Shea and Tilly. Ackerman quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 13:00 with helpers from Gast and Wendorf.
The WarHawks’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Weissenborn as he stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced. Weissenborn’s counterpart, Mulligan, also had a big night, managing to stop 26 of 28, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Willmar WarHawks’ record to (40-42-4-2)
