Max Oelkers had a big night with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) as the Willmar WarHawks crushed the Rochester Ice Hawks 6-1 in a home game at Rochester Recreation Center in Willmar. As well, the Willmar WarHawks' offense had a big night, peppering Rochester with 58 shots throughout the game. The Willmar WarHawks took the lead late in the first on a goal from Keegan Bauman and never looked back.
Braden Shea delivered for his team with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) and Peyton Bolstad chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first period, Cooper opened the scoring for the WarHawks with a goal at 4:28 with helpers from his linemates, Slagter and Berkowitz. Bauman put in what turned out to be the game winning goal at 15:41 with helpers from teammates Takashima and Martin. Shea quickly followed with a goal at 17:28 with assists from his linemates, Oelkers and Bolstad.
During the second period, Shea deposited a goal at 2:10 with assists from Toll and Oelkers. Oelkers quickly followed with a goal at 3:18 with helpers from his linemates, Martin and Fry. Rooney finally put Rochester on the board with a goal at 8:40 with a helper from fellow Ice Hawks forward Renn. Bolstad answered for Willmar with a goal at 11:46 with assists from his linemates, Shea and Oelkers.
The WarHawks’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Fry’s big night as he stopped 9 of the 10 shots he faced. Fry’s counterpart, Schenkenberg, also had a big night, managing to stop 52 of 58, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Willmar WarHawks’ record to (3-0-0-0).
